Head on over to The Prompt to read about the history lesson that changed my view of America. Don’t worry, it’s bipartisan. And it involves…wait for it…hippos. So please click, read and if you also feel an overwhelming urge to make other people understand this crazy story in our common history, share.

Did you hear about those Alien Megastructures?
Ok, so before I send you over to The Prompt to checkout my latest post (spoiler alert: it’s on Alien Megastructures) – I have a quick request: If you are on Facebook AND you have been even just mildly entertained by anything you’ve read of mine (or anyone else) on The Prompt site, could you go and LIKE the Prompt’s Facebook PAGE? That would be awesome. Without further ado…Alien Megastructures.
Taking a Risk…
If you know me (and most people who read my blog probably do know me) – I’m NOT a risk taker. I took a risk a while back and published my first couple pieces on this blog, and since then, sharing my writing doesn’t usually feel risky. But, this week, over at The Prompt, I wrote a piece that feels (for me) really, really risky. Because unlike personal stories or takes on science and robots, this piece is about a somewhat contentious social issue. I suspect some of you may read it and totally disagree with my opinion on this…
It’s Getting Nerdy In Here…
So over at The Prompt, I’ve been indulging my nerdier side. I mean, instead of just telling stories about my life, which is admittedly nerdy at times, I’ve been straight up writing about the nerdier topics that interest me. Like Mars. And for those of you who may not be super excited to read my post about Mars, you should know that one of my father’s classic bumper stickers makes an appearance. So that should really be all you need to know. So go read about why we should take seriously the idea of moving to Mars, you know, some…
Head On Over to “The Prompt”!
So…the reason I haven’t published anything here for a month is that for most of the summer I’ve been working with some folks over at a new online publication, The Prompt, that just went live today. Please head over (www.thepromptmag.com) and check out some of the stuff I’ve been working on! And please check out some of the stuff the other folks are writing too. Head’s up, the style of the pieces over at this other site is slightly different from what I’ve been writing on Atomish. It’s less “things that happened to me” and more my take on various…
Parents Shalt Not…
We were so idealistic. My wife and I, before we had our kids.
Latin Lyme
One summer day in 1998, while hiking in the woods with a couple friends, I noticed a strange looking bite on my arm…
When You Are Dangling From a Ledge
As a general rule, I try to avoid situations where one wrong step could send me plummeting to my death. But hey, rules are made to be broken, right? And so on a recent Monday afternoon atop a canyon just outside of Zion National Park I leaned myself against a near vertical face of rock…
Run Shiba Run…
I was never a dog person growing up. We never had dogs. We had a cat. Her name was Star and I did care for her, but in the sort of way that a mother might still care for their child even after learning that said child has been possessed by Satan himself. The sort…
Don’t Judge Me By My Spotify Playlists
So I’m doing some social media experimentation this week. I’ve posted something on Medium…so you’ll have to click through below. Next week I may do a post on Instagram – I’ll just submit pictures of each word in a 3,000 word piece, one at a time… Don’t Judge Me…
